Overall the #5 prospect in the nation, the 6-2, 205-pound Benn was accompanied by his family, and first unofficially visited the University of Illinois before coming to Southern California. He went to USC's campus, and then today visited with the UCLA coaches.

"Yeah, it was just a trip out to California to check it out," Benn said. "I really like it out here. It's a great place, so much to do." So, what'd he think of UCLA and USC? "I like them," he said. "They're both nice. On one hand you have USC, which is an established power, but then you have UCLA, which is up-and-coming. It'd be fun to be a part of that, be a difference-maker."

Benn, one of the most recruited players in the nation, said he hasn't narrowed down his list, but said he's seriously considering Notre Dame, Illinois, Miami, Florida, State, and Maryland, as well as USC and UCLA.

When asked if he had a timetable for a decision, Benn, who had 49 catches, 1,100 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior, said he thought he'd decide by his birthday, which he said was September 8th. "I'd like to get it out of the way by then," he said.

He said he was on his way back to his home in Washington, D.C., but that he wouldn't rule out more unofficial visits during the summer. "I've been to most of the schools I'm thinking about. I could maybe still go visit the Florida schools," he said.

Benn is a solid student, with a 3.25 GPA and an 890 on the old-style SAT.
