Recruit to watch: DB LeRue Rumph

WeAreSC.com caught up with a defensive back LaRue Rumph out of Clearwater Central Catholic High School in Florida recently as he tries to make it all the way back from a fractured tibia suffered in the 5th game of his junior season. He had the following update…

LaRue Rumph has the size and speed in the defensive backfield that has coaches nationwide taking notice. Rumph is 6'2", 208 pounds, and has 4.5 speed in the forty. He also has a 33" vertical and currently benches out at a max of 315 pounds. LaRue has been rehabbing his broken leg since last fall, and therefore has not been able to attend any camps this year. He is known for his aggressive play and huge hits as most schools are looking at him at safety. He plays both safety and linebacker on his high school team as well as seeing time at wide receiver on offense.

The five schools that Rumph currently favors are (in no particular order): Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina State, and USC. He mentioned he considers them all even and only Miami has not offered out of the five. LaRue has seen all the Florida schools, so he would like to take his visits out of state and possibly see USC, Stanford, Ohio State, and Michigan among others, as he has not made up his mind on what particular school(s) will get a visit. He said he would wait until February to sign his letter of intent. All of his family is in Florida, mainly in Miami, so family could certainly be a factor in his commitment.

When asked what he liked about USC, LaRue mentioned the tradition of the school, and coaches Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron. Rumph is friends with 2002 Trojan commit Mike Ross who is also a safety from Florida. LaRue is fully qualified and is undecided on what his major will be in college.
