Thursday practice tidbits

Practice was somewhat mellow today, but John David Booty looked as sharp as I've seen this year (other than the Game with Arkansas where he was very solid).

I got to practice a little late and the first play during the scrimmage (first team O/second team D) was a quick strike to Fred Davis over the middle for 25 yards.

Moved toward the middle of Howard Jones Field and noticed Kevin Thomas was icing his ankle while sitting on a table. He's walking on it fine, though. Kevin Ellison went over to Thomas and chatted for a bit, then returned to the sidelines, turned his back and said, "Are you going to be like Lendale White." Ellison then smiled, as it was some tongue-in-cheek trash talking.

Kyle Moore also sat out practice with a sore ankle and Chauncey is definitely having issues with his hammy again. He sat out today's practice, too.

Mark Sanchez had a couple of really nice tosses that were dropped. A fifty yard bomb to Steve Smith and a 25 yard pass down the left sideline to Ausberry. However, Sanchez connected with Travon Patterson for touchdown.

Fred Davis continues his stellar play and caught multiple passes from Booty.

Where Booty was especially sharp today were on quick out-patterns. He put on a show with his timing and accuracy.

Bradford and Stafon Johnson had a bunch of carries, but it's difficult to judge the running backs on days like today--at least for me. They weren't hitting very hard for the most part.

Taylor Mays, McCurtis and Perez are practicing with the first unit, as is Shareece Wright at times. With Mozique moving to safety, Shareece's role should increase a lot.

Practice ended with David Ausberry catching a perfectly thrown ball from Sanchez for a 19 yard gain.

There just wasn't that much to report from practice today.

Since SC has a bye week, a few of the coaches will travel out of state and others will be in SoCal for local prep games.

Pete Carroll:
Coach Carroll will attend the Peninsula/Serra game and then head to Arizona with Coach Holt to see Everson Griffen.

Lane Kiffin:
Coach Kiffin will be at the Servite/Santiago game Friday.

Pat Ruel:
Coach Ruel is traveling to Tucson to see Kris O'Dowd.

Brennan Carroll:
Lil Carroll will be in Illinois and Michigan to see Martez Wilson and Ronald Johnson.

Todd McNair:
Coach McNair will attend the Oaks Christian/Muir game.

Ken Norton Jr.
Coach Norton will be at the Norco/Eisenhower game to watch Jordan Campbell.

I'm sure all of the coaches will attend games, but those are all I have for now. Top Stories
