O'Dowd gets in-home visit from USC coaches

Around this time every year, in-home visits begin and recruits develop a pretty rigorous schedule of events. One recruit who has, and will continue to host top schools around the country is Salpointe Catholic (AZ.) offensive lineman Kristofer O'Dowd. Rumors have recently had O'Dowd leaning every which way, but the five-star lineman is dispelling all of the recent talk.

O'Dowd had a chance to host the coaches of SC on an in-home visit, and he was surprised to see what coaches made it out.

"Coach Carroll, Coach Kiffin, and Coach Holt came in for the visit, and it went really well."

O'Dowd has had football at the forefront of his mind for weeks now, but tonight's visit with the coaches of Southern Cal was a refreshing break from the stress of recruiting.

"To tell you the truth, we didn't really talk much about football," said O'Dowd. "I've been around the schools on the top of my list for so long now that I pretty much know what's on the table. My parents are also really well informed, so it was good to just relax tonight. We talked a lot about family stuff, and the dinner went really well."

O'Dowd has been projected at five different spots during his recruitment, making him a pretty versatile player. But SC has their own vision for O'Dowd, including stepping in as a freshman and making a big impact.

"They are talking about me playing center, definitely," commented O'Dowd. "They think I can handle that spot and excel in it if I work to go there. They want me to learn everything about the offenses and defenses and hopefully be the guy next year."

Despite O'Dowd's familiarity with the Trojan coaching staff, he still found himself honored to have a coaching legend in his household.

"It really is flattering when a head coach comes down to see you," said O'Dowd on having Coach Carroll in his Tucson household. "But the relationship with my position coach is most important to me. It definitely is an honor though, and we are pretty used to each other by this point. I really was more for my parents."

Speaking of parents, one member of the O'Dowd family did find time to ask plenty of questions.

"My family enjoyed it and the dinner went really well. My mom was in the ear of Coach Carroll the whole time, and he answered all of the questions she asked very well. They had a good time."

The coaches spent a few hours with O'Dowd in his household, and O'Dowd will make his decision next Thursday. O'Dowd plans on contacting the media and holding a press conference to announce his decision.
