Deonte talks about upcoming USC visit

USC offensive line coach Pat Ruel was in Belle Glades, FL earlier this week and had an in-home visit with Deonte Thompson and his family.

With the Trojans lacking a game breaker since Reggie Bush left for the NFL, the coaching staff has had its eyes wide open looking for an athlete who can score from anywhere on the field. It came as somewhat of a surprise to learn Thompson had rescheduled an official visit to USC. So, we asked what it was about USC that interested Thompson enough to schedule a visit after Pat Ruel's (USC offensive line) in-home visit.

"Because it's USC, man," Thompson said. "They have history, tradition and great academics. I just think it would be a great spot. There's really nothing bad to say about the (football) program."

Thompson is a more than likely a long shot at this point for USC, but an official visit can't hurt the Trojans' chances. Thompson talked about a few items Coach Ruel mentioned as to why he thought USC would be a the school for him.

"He was telling me they're in the second largest media market in the country," Thompson said. "He was enlightening me about the school and the program. He said I could be the guy who can get back there and blaze--and make a big contribution to the team."

There's no doubt Thompson can blaze. He ran three straight 4.28 forty times at the Jacksonville Combine on Sunday April 17, 2005. As Bob Ryan from the HBO series "Entourage" would say, "Would that be something you'd be interested in?"

Thompson doesn't have any other official visits set up, but he has visited LSU and Ohio State and stated, "Both trips were real good."

We'll have an more on Thompson's after his official visit to USC. Top Stories
