Two ineligible for Rose Bowl

The Trojans learned that two football players will be ineligible for the 2007 Rose Bowl game against Michigan. Offensive lineman Matt Spanos will try to regain his eligibility this spring but kickoff specialist Troy Van Blarcom has been dismissed from the university.

Spanos had been ineligible for the fall semester but was hopeful to get cleared in time for the Rose Bowl by earning qualifying marks with semester grades. That did not happen and so Spanos will now focus on attempting to become eligible by next fall. He will be able to take classes at USC in the spring and will be considered a favorite to take over the starting right tackle spot from Kyle Williams in 2007.

Van Blarcom, on the other hand, will not be able to take classes at USC this spring while working to regain his eligiblity. The sophomore will decide between attending junior college or electing to transfer to another school.
