"They communicated and competed together, which is important to me," Carroll told the LA Times. "He's been in the league a long time and been exposed to that level of competition, which I think brings a tremendous asset to us."
Morton was with the Raiders for seven years, he was on their coaching staff from 2002-2004, and he also spent a year working at USD under Jim Harbaugh in 2005.
The paperwork for the Morton hiring has not been completed as his wife is scheduled to give birth any day now so the process could take up to a week before it is finalized.
Morton takes over as receivers coach for Lane Kiffin, who left to take over the head coaching job for the Raiders.
