Morton to join USC staff as WR coach

Pete Carroll has announced that he will be adding John Morton to the USC coaching staff as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.

Morton, who spent the 2006 season as an offensive coach and passing game coordinator for the New Orleans Saints, also has worked in the past with Trojan offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian when both were with the Oakland Raiders in 2004.

"They communicated and competed together, which is important to me," Carroll told the LA Times. "He's been in the league a long time and been exposed to that level of competition, which I think brings a tremendous asset to us."

Morton was with the Raiders for seven years, he was on their coaching staff from 2002-2004, and he also spent a year working at USD under Jim Harbaugh in 2005.

The paperwork for the Morton hiring has not been completed as his wife is scheduled to give birth any day now so the process could take up to a week before it is finalized.

Morton takes over as receivers coach for Lane Kiffin, who left to take over the head coaching job for the Raiders.
