Recruit Profile: DE Jamaar Jarrett

One area that USC will make a high priority for the 2008 recruiting class is defensive end. And while the Trojans landed blue-chip prospects Michael Reardon and Everson Griffen in the class of 2007, it is looking like Reardon will begin his playing days on the offensive side of the ball. One player that may fit the DE role is Jamaar Jarrett of San Marcos Mission Hills HS (CA.).

Jarrett is one of the most talked about defensive ends in California, and for good reason. Jarrett has already received offers from Arizona, Oregon, Ole Miss, Colorado, and SDSU, but would like to add an offer from the Trojans of Southern Cal.

"Other then USC, there really aren't any schools that are really standing out," said Jarrett. "I like everything about USC, from the tradition to the energy at the school. I also really like the way they practice."

Jarrett is no stranger to the Southern Cal campus, but recently made a trip to SC to experience the newly formed "Meet and Greet."

"I was down there (USC) yesterday for Junior Day and we ended up watching the basketball game. I really liked the way they took care of us, they were always talking to us and answering any questions that we had."

Defensive Coordinator Nick Holt will be handle the recruitment of Jarrett, and the two have already been in touch.

"Coach Holt is just telling me to keep up on school and grades, and wants me to send over a highlight film from my junior year."

Jamaar has made it no secret of his intentions to become the second Jarrett to don the Cardinal & Gold, and is still mulling over what to do in case an offer does arrive from the hometown Trojans.

"I'm not sure yet," answered Jarrett when asked what an SC offer would mean. "I've been thinking about committing early, I'm not really sure yet."

Jarrett is a player that definitely has not and will not shy away from competition, planning to attend as many camps as he can in the upcoming months.

"I'm not sure what camps I'll be attending, but I know definitely I'll try and camp as much as I can at SC."
