In the line one on one drills, Sam Baker was impressive going up against Kyle Moore as Sam reminded everyone why he is an All-American as he basically stopped Moore in his tracks. Nick Howell had one good rep against Sedrick Ellis which brought a smile to the face of his father, Pat, who was watching from the sidelines but Sed also beat Nick a few times and that is going to happen when you are a newcomer to the position going up against a potential All-American candidate such as Ellis. Nick is at a solid 285 pounds these days and has performed well to this point in spring ball. Zach Heberer continued to impress, as did Drew Radovich at RT with a couple solid reps against Lawrence Jackson.
In the team drills, we saw Booty hit Hazelton with a crossing route and quick tackle by Cary Harris. Sanchez completed two passes in a row to Travon Patterson and then hit a nice fade pattern to David Ausberry. At that point the ball was placed on the 20 yard line and the team worked on some red zone situational drills. Keith Rivers dropped back in coverage and did a good job to knock away a Booty pass intended for Vidal in the end zone. A Booty pass to Ausberry got the ball inside the ten and a short Gable run got it inside the five, at that point the defense was fired up to hold them but Booty hit Vidal with the short pass and a touchdown.
The ball was brought out to the 30 and the first pass attempt by Sanchez was batted down by Alex Morrow. Bradford then had a beautiful weaving run that went for 22 yards. Chauncey Washington tried to get outside on a run but Kaluka Maiava was there to hold the play to no gain. With the ball inside his own ten, Booty missed on a pair of passes and then was sacked in the end zone for a safety.
Sanchez took over on the 20 and hit a wide open Ausberry in the conrer of the end zone for a touchdown but Vincent Joseph blocked the Buehler extra point attempt.
Booty was picked by Cary Harris on the next series. Kyle Moore had a sack. Gable had a nice run where he was hit at the line but stumbled forward and stayed on his feet for another eight yards. Will Harris had a nice play to break up a pass attempt to Vidal and then on the final play of the day we saw Bradford put a move on Maiava in the open field before dashing in for a 20 yard TD run.
Broderick Green, Jordan Campbell, Da'John Harris, Jim Hardy, Bob Jensen and Pat Howell were in attendance as were several members of the South Torrance, LB Poly and El Camino College teams.
