We did see Stafon Johnson go through some light bag drills at the start of the day. Stafon wasn't dressed for practice but it was still good to see him go through at least a few drills to get a little bit of action. His Dorsey HS coach, Paul Knox, was one of the visitors to practice today.
A funny moment came during one defensive back drill. A walk-on, #37, held onto a bag and tried to give each player a pop as they ran by, When it was Taylor Mays turn, #37 gave it all he had but Taylor didn't even budge.
During the situational drill on Brian Kennedy Field, Mozique McCurtis continued his fine play with a hard tackle on Chauncey Washington after a short run. Keith Rivers prevented Hershel Dennis from getting outside and held the play to a two yard loss. Chauncey broke through the middle of the defense for a long run. Chris Barrett made a real nice leaping play to knock down a Mark Sanchez pass at the line.
The team drill at the end of the day saw a lot of red zone work. Things got going with Stanley Havili catching a pass and running through a Vincent Joseph tackle in the open field. A couple plays later, Havili caught a TD pass at the goal line from John David Booty. Rey Maualuga tipped a Sanchez pass and it fell incomplete. Garrett Green tried to hit David Ausberry but Jim Abbott made a highlight play to knock the ball away. Booty threw a high pass over the middle and Patrick Turner was able to come down with the ball. Hershel Dennis went up the middle with a strong run that saw him run over Brent Yoshida in the secondary. Desmond Reed had a short TD run where he wasn't touched as he ran over the left side of the line. Sanchez had a TD pass to Chauncey and then Booty threw TD passes to Jimmy Miller and Turner. McCurtis also had a big hit on Dennis during one run. Matthew Jordan ended the day with an interception of a Sanchez pass.
Among those in attendance were Sam Cunningham, John Mazur and Da'John Harris.
