USC Is After Adams

With Mitch Mustain enrolling at USC yesterday, the Trojans officially added its third player from Arkansas. Broderick Green was the first to verbally commit to USC, but wide receiver Damien Williams was the first to sign a letter-of-intent.

Rumors began swirling around the internet today that Joe Adams (6-1, 175, 4.4) had verbally committed to the Trojans. Can Pete Carroll possibly steal another elite prospect from Arkansas? WeAreSC called Green to find out if he knew anything about Adams and if he'd seen him play.

"Yeah I know him, we're good friends," Green said about his relationship with the Arkansas athlete. "He committed to USC. I think it was yesterday when he called me." We were able to obtain Adam's cell phone number and we called, and left a message.

Adam's mother returned our call and asked if we could call her son on their home phone. Apparently, Adams received numerous calls today after the rumor of his commitment hit internet message boards. Not surprising, considering he's one of the top prospects in the state and a highly ranked national prospect.

We reached Adams a few minutes after his mother contacted us and asked him if he told Green he had verbally committed to USC. "I talked to him (Green) about it and I was thinking about doing it, but I'm going to wait until I take my trips," Adams said. "I'll commit sometime before the season begins.

After we established the rumor of Adams committing to USC was false, we asked when the Trojans offered and how he learned about the offer.

"Coach Brennan (Carroll) called me yesterday," Adams said. "We talked for a minute and he told me he had good news. He put me on the phone with Pete Carroll and he told me they watched my highlight tape with all the coaches, and he had an offer for me.

"I was surprised I got to talk to him," Adams said. "I've always seen him on TV and I never thought I get a chance to talk to him. He said Brennan will be recruiting me as an athlete and that opens things for me because I can play on offense or defense."

We called Green again and told him Adams decided not to commit, but he had thought about it. "Yeah, I talked to Coach Carroll and he wants to take a trip to SC before he makes his decision," Green said. "But SC is his top school."

Adams didn't tell us USC was his top school, but he did list five schools that are standing out more than the other seven schools that have offered. " "I would say it's Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas Tech, Minnesota and USC, Adams said. He added this comment about the Trojans, "I really have a lot of interest in USC."

Adams has taken four unofficial visits and has three more planned for the summer.

"I've been to Oklahoma, Tulsa, Arkansas and Auburn," Adams said. "I'm going to try and come out to USC this summer. I'll probably attend one of the camps. I might visit Georgia and Clemson, too"

As a junior, Adams rushed for 882 yards and 14 touchdowns, had 632 yards receiving and another nine touchdowns. He also had 590 return yards with and one touchdown. Top Stories
