The tailback by committee contingent is all present and accounted for. C.J. Gable, Stafon Johnson, Allen Bradford, Desmond Reed and Broderick Green reported for duty. On the sidelines still, Chauncey Washington removed his sling but did not practice. Hershel Dennis still waits his time. Joe McKnight took some snaps but is not cleared for contact; he had a brace on his right knee. Marc Tyler is mobile but did not practice.
Is There Rhodes Scholar Attorney in the House?
Former two time national champion, USC Quarterback Pat Haden roamed the sidelines and caught up with acquaintances. Seeing Haden seems to bring kickoff ever closer.
The team practiced without pads but did a lot of drills and walked through plays (at full speed), installing the game plan. Coach Carroll remarked that today was like an extra day, normally Mondays are slower, and time is spent reviewing the previous game. Instead, the team can work on this week's opponents, the Idaho Vandals.
The team and coaches worked smoothly and with enthusiasm, knowing kickoff is just a few days away. Coaches Ken Norton Jr., Pat Ruel and Dave Watson were especially vocal today. This lifted the players to more enthusiastic play.
Low Down on the High Ups
John David Booty was accurate and led the team through a great practice. Booty's leadership, confidence and passing accuracy was quite apparent today. Look for Booty to have an excellent year. All of the available tailbacks got plenty of handoffs. Patrick Turner put in another hardworking practice, catching virtually everything that went his direction. Ronald Johnson and David Ausberry had brilliant catches on the day
Once again work was done with the punt and kickoff teams. After watching these groups, it is safe to say there will be a noticeable improvement on special teams this season.
Let's Have a Sellout Crowd
There are still some 2,000 tickets available for this game. Kickoff is at 7:15pm, Saturday, September 1, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
