Thursday Practice Report

The weather was significantly more cooperative, and the #1 USC Trojans got a spring back in their steps in an animated Thursday Practice.

More than a Fashion Statement

By now, it's been well documented that Rey Maualuga shed his locks of hair and is sporting a clean haircut. It wasn't just a fashion statement for Maualuga.

"My dad went through Chemotherapy and lost his hair," said Maualuga after practice. "I just thought I would grow my hair out and cut it and donate it," Maualuga said. "My mom is proud and happy."

Maualuga plans on donating his hair to a charity for children with cancer.

I'm Chillin' You Chillin'?

The weather was gorgeous for this day of practice. Sunny skies, no clouds, temperatures in the mid 70's with a cool ocean breeze filling Howard Jones Field. This is Trojan Football weather! Cool and exciting…

Coaches Fired Up, Dogg

The coaches were quite animated and picked up the level of attention to detail for the players. There seemed to be an air of fun and intensity in the air. Adding to the practice was piped sound. Crowd noise filled the field, after some music by a selection of Rap Artists…

Tailback U Revisited

After the recent low running back count at the tailback position, it was good to see some getting back on the field. Adding to the list of Desmond Reed, Allen Bradford, C.J. Gable, Stafon Johnson and Joe McKnight was Hershel Dennis and Marc Tyler.

Young Players Getting Extra Work

With a bye week upon us Pete Carroll is using the extra practice time to get another look at the young players. "We are mixing in a lot of young guys into opportunities and try and make sure we get another evaluation of them before we get back into full game week,"

Thursday's Standouts

Fred Davis made several impressive catches, Maualuga is still roaring to make hits and Stanley Havili stood out. Practice game balls go to Tyler and Dennis for making it back to the practice field. Mark Sanchez also looked very good passing the ball after an extended time off the field recovering from a thumb injury.

Angel City Classic

The Trojans have a bye week, but that won't stop Pete Carroll from watching college football at the Coliseum this weekend. Carroll said he will attend the Angel City Classic this Saturday. The event includes a game between historically black colleges North Carolina A&T and Prairie View A&M and a battle of the bands.

"It's a great event and a great idea. Hopefully we can support it and help some kids get to college that might not have gone otherwise," Carroll said. The Angel City Classic starts at 2:30 p.m.

Next Practice

Friday's practice was at 6:15 a.m., a good time for the team to practice without spectators and media. The Trojans will take the weekend off from practice as coaches spread out for the weekend, to observe several football games. Top Stories
