Quoting Carroll - Thursday Practice

Is Brian Cushing good to go? Who starts at Tailback? Kevin Carden of SCPlayBook caught up with USC Trojan Head Coach Pete Carroll after practice on Thursday, and Carroll answers these questions and more.

Carroll comparing Kris O'Dowd and Ryan Kalil:

"Ryan was a guy we had to build up. He came in at about 260(pounds), and we had to build him up through the strength and conditioning program. He always moved really well and was extremely fast for an offensive lineman. We had timed him at 4.6 at times which is ridiculously fast….

Kris is just a naturally big strong kid who has got brute strength. He will be tremendously strong after he works in the program. But naturally he's got great hand and upper body strength. His base is really sound, he has very good balance. He stays on his feet. You never see him on the ground, and he's really smart and he's really tough."

Carroll on the week of practice:

"Being in the first immediate Saturday to Saturday game you can really feel a sense of urgency in the preparation. We had a really good practice. I think I said it yesterday the service teams are really performing well, and that really gives us a chance to practice at a high level. Mitch (Mustain) is doing a great job at quarterback down on the other end."

Carroll on Brian Cushing:

"He practiced well today; he made it through. That's a good sign. He's gonna play; he's going to play for sure. We'll see in pregame if he feels 100%. He still may get a start here. Others guys are ready to go too. We would love to get him in there just 'cause he has been chomping at the bit."

Carroll on Chauncey Washington starting Saturday:

"Chauncey (Washington) will go out first. Chauncey will be the first up in this game. Just a chance to see him, and he had a great camp and got knocked. It's just somebody has got to go first, so I am just going to go with the oldest guy."
