Weather Forecast for South Bend

There may be some rain in store for the Trojans this weekend. According to weather.com, rain is expected for most of Friday but should clear up for Saturday. The bright side is the temperature should be in the low to mid sixties, very bearable. The Trojans have had a little rain in three of their last four games, Washington State, at Washington and Arizona.

Wounded and Not So Wounded

Pete Carroll has said all week that many of the injured should be coming back soon. Most surprising could be Rey Maualuga, barely able to move on Monday and Tuesday, he looked good walking around yesterday. Today he practiced just about full speed. He'll probably make an appearance in Saturday's game although Thomas Williams is the projected starter at middle linebacker.

Hamstrung: all nursing hamstring injuries – Sam Baker, Shareece Wright and Terrell Thomas. Wright and Thomas look like they can play, Baker has said he will play, but has been mostly sidelined this week.

Coming home time for CushingBrian Cushing had his best week of practice since the first game of the year. He has been battling an ankle injury all year and has not played any significant minutes. Pete Carroll says he will play, but they will ease him into the rotation.

Still slow Stafon – Yesterday Pete Carroll said he wanted Stafon Johnson to show that he can play today. It looks like another week before Stafon gets his legs back. He has been bothered by a foot injury for three weeks.

Chilo Rachal – For the last two days Carroll has said Rachal will play. He is still moving a little slow.

Starting Quarterback Not Officially Announced

Still no official word on who will be the starting quarterback. The longer the announcement takes, the more certain it will be Mark Sanchez. Sanchez took the entire first-string reps again today. Coach Carroll decided to give Booty some rest today and probably tomorrow, to give his finger needed rest.

Most likely scenario, Sanchez will start and Booty will relieve him only if things get desperate. Michael McDonald will otherwise serve as the backup quarterback.

South Bend Bound

The team left Los Angeles this afternoon and was scheduled to arrive in the early evening, local time. They will have a couple light workouts tomorrow before game day on Saturday.
