Monday Practice Report for Homecoming Week against OSU
Take It Easy, Cowboy
As is customary, Monday practice was short and light., no pads or helmets. There were several pro scouts roaming the sidelines as the end of the season draws a little closer. While watching the light practice, the thought, "Why don't they practice harder?" came to mind.
The Eminent Return of John David Booty
Booty took the first team reps today and he looked pretty good. He didn't have the form that he had before he broke his finger, but looks very close to being ready.
Coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian both said Booty is close to recovery and they would see how his finger reacts to practice in the coming days.
With Booty taking first team reps, Mark Sanchez went back to the second position.
Recovering From Injury, or Not
For the first time in a few weeks, Stafon Johnson got a lot of carries and appears to be running a whole lot better. The Trojans have missed his running abilities.
According to Carroll, Sam Baker is ailing and would be a long shot to return for Saturday's match-up against the Beavers.
Stafon Johnson, Joe McKnight, Chauncey Washington and Hershel Dennis all got looks at the tailback spot. As mentioned previously, Johnson was quite active. David Ausberry had a nice catch; Patrick Turner and Fred Davis had a nice day. Practice ended when a game of "Trojan Ball" broke out on the defensive end of the field.
John David Booty Speaks
"It feels good (the finger), it's still sore. I got my velocity back, the ball is spinning again. The last couple weeks it was coming out a little funky, I was pushing it a little bit. I felt like I was getting back to myself, and the ball was coming out nice today."
Mark Sanchez's Thoughts
About this weekend's loss, "I have to be smarter about a couple throws and we have to be better in the redzone." On practicing this week, he said, "I have to prepare like I have every week and we'll take it from there."
