Tuesday Practice Report

The Trojans looked focused and had an intense practice on Tuesday at Howard Jones Field. SCPlaybook's Kevin Carden brings you all the news and notes from practice as USC prepares to do battle with the UCLA Bruins this Saturday at the LA Coliseum.

Rivers, Baker Will Play

Two of USC's senior captains will be available to play this weekend and could even start. Linebacker Keith Rivers and left tackle Sam Baker both made it through practice today without any issues.

Pete Carroll said that Baker should see significant playing time against UCLA and could have played in the second half of the Arizona State game but was held out as a precaution.

"He (Sam Baker) practiced great today and made it through the whole thing. He's raring to go and feeling really good. So that's terrific."

Carroll was very pleased with the progress of Keith Rivers and said Rivers looks like he is ready to start.

"Keith looked great today. He's fine," Carroll said. "He looked full speed today. He's going to start the way he is going if he can make it through the week."

USC Moving to the Rose Bowl?

USC confirmed Tuesday that it is seeking a 2-year lease agreement to play its home games at the Rose Bowl beginning in the Fall of 2008.

In a press release USC Senior Vice President for Administration Todd R. Dickey explained USC's stance on the matter.

"Although we have been a faithful tenant of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for 80 years, we must now seek other alternatives for the good of our football program and our fans," Dickey said. "The Coliseum has not benefited from substantive physical upgrades or preventative maintenance for more than ten years because the Commission has focused on attracting an NFL team that would renovate the stadium."

USC Director of Athletics Mike Garrett explained that USC wants to remain at the Coliseum but has been forced to seek other options because of the lack of upgrades to the stadium.

"We want our football program to stay at the Coliseum. But, as we all know, the Coliseum needs significant upgrades to provide fans with the Trojan game experience they deserve. We'll keep working to stay in the Coliseum, but until we have full support from the Coliseum Commission, we're forced to pursue the option of playing in the Rose Bowl."

Injury News

Cornerback Cary Harris intercepted a John David Booty pass during Tuesday's practice but hurt his finger in the process. After practice Pete Carroll said he believed that Harris had dislocated his finger.

"I think he dislocated his finger. I don't know yet, he is in seeing the doctors right now," said Pete Carroll.

Defensive tackle Fili Moala was held out of practice again Tuesday because he was still feeling the effects of the concussion he suffered against Arizona State.

Pete Carroll was cautious when discussing the possible return of Moala.

"He's still sitting out," said Carroll. "He's going to get re-evaluated tonight and talk to the doctors and all of that and get as much rest as he needs. Hopefully we will get him back."

With Moala sidelined Lawrence Jackson and Averell Spicer both practiced at defensive tackle.

Right guard Chilo Rachal wasn't at practice on Tuesday and word was he had a fever. Kristofer O'Dowd and Alatini Malu filled in at right guard for Rachal.

Linebacker Michael Morgan wore a boot and didn't practice.
