ROSAS FAMILY HOLIDAY DRIVE A SUCCESS

Organizers from the three USC Football Fan Websites, USCFootball.com, WeAreSC.com and SCPlaybook.com joined forces to organize a Holiday Drive for the Ricky Rosas Family. Ricky Rosas has been a volunteer Gatorade bartender and office aide for two years.

Report by Lizzle Q. Singian:

Stafon Johnson and his mother showed up, Thumb Wrestling Match 2007 took place, and at the end of the day volunteers from the Drive caravaned over to East Los Angeles and delivered to the Rosas Family a new bed, a sofa, two TVs, three DVD/VHS players, an Xbox, a Nintendo DS-Lite, enough clothing to warrant the purchase of a new dresser, pillows, sheets, a large USC rug, toys, and gift cards and checks totaling a few thousand dollars.

There were no shortage of hugs at the Rosas residence Sunday night. Rosas' mother, Michelle Jones, fought back tears of joy when the family was presented with the gifts. Gifts that came from all over, including: Ohio, Massachusetts and Florida. One of the checks sent had a notation reading that it came from "Buckeye Fans."

Trojan punter Billy O'Malley's parents sent a contribution from Ohio. Trojan tailback Stafon Johnson's mother Kim Dunbar showed up to volunteer, and brought croissants and home-made iced tea with her. Johnson made an appearance as well towards the end of the Drive, despite feeling under the weather, to show his support for his friend. "Slick!" he yelled out to Ricky when he arrived. "I'm the only one allowed to call him that," Johnson announced.

Curtis Boyer set up the USC tent around 10:30 a.m. Kevin Carden brought breakfast for the volunteers. Ryan Abraham and Garry Paskwietz provided lunch. Volunteers came from as far as Tehachapi, CA. An estimated 50 or so vehicles stopped by to deliver items and give hugs to Rosas. Jamie Rodriguez took photos throughout the day.

Representatives from the USC Football Office brought hats to give to the volunteers, as well as a football to throw around. Thumb Wrestling Match 2007 took place. LQ Singian (celebrating in photo below) defeated Clayton DeLeon in the first round, only to lose to Rosas in the Championship.

When the volunteers left the Rosas residence, after having moved all of the items in and installed a TV, the Xbox and a DVD player (the first DVD popped in was the History of USC Football), Security 1 was still installing the security system it had donated to the family. A sleeper sofa will also be delivered in the coming days, as will be mattresses and box springs donated by 'Sit n Sleep.'

"We are so grateful to everyone," commented Jones. "I don't know what to say. It's incredible. Thank you to USC."

"I want to thank everyone who came by," added Rosas. "I love everything. Thank you so much."

EDITORIAL NOTE: Lizzle Q. claims the '1st Runner-up' title for the 1st Annual Ricky Rosas Thumb War, but our own Clay de Leon (2nd runner up), is contesting the results, and requesting a recount.
