Rumors swirled over the last 24 hours, most saying that Telemaque had committed to the University of Miami Hurricanes. Throughout his senior season, Telemaque appeared to be headed for USC. In the end…it was all Miami.
The Goods on Vaughn Telemaque
Vaughn Telemaque is a 6'2," 187-pound safety from Long Beach Poly High School in Long Beach, California. He's a Scout.com 4-star recruit. Telemaque saw his stock rise significantly in his senior season, when he chalked up 91 tackles and nine interceptions. He had three interceptions for the Jackrabbits in a 13-3 victory over Crespi High, in the CIF Southern Section Division-I championship game.
Scout National Recruiting Editor Allen Wallace had this to say about Telemaque: "Vaughn Telemaque watched his stock rise as a senior due to his consistent big-play ability and aggressiveness. He shows a knack for being in the right place at the right time and had a whopping nine picks as a senior. Telemaque also excels at shedding blockers and provides superior, heavy-hitting run support. Basically he's one of those guys who is all over the field. He can run down breakaway receivers or blow up runs before they get started. He also possesses excellent ball skills and instincts. He should make a major positive impact soon at the college level."
West Recruiting Analyst, Brandon Huffman said, "There were few guys who came up as clutch in the big games like Telemaque. Witness his three-interception performance against Crespi in the Pac-5 finals. He has a swagger that you can't and won't beat him. He played the whole year with a chip on his shoulder, getting passed over for attention during the spring and most of the summer, and proved all year that he was a bigtime prospect. There was a reason he was named the Southern California Defensive Player of the Year."
The last 24-hours saw dead quiet coming from the Telemaque camp. This didn't stop message boards from discussing Telemaque's supposed announcement – to Miami. One Southland beat writer went as far as saying Telemaque and Long Beach Poly teammate Jurrell Casey had given a verbal commitment to USC. While speculation and innuendo reached fever pitches, the Telemaque camp remained quiet since taping his choice at the Fox Studios a day prior to air-time.
Waffling and Indecision
As National Letter of Intent day loomed closer, Telemaque held on to USC as his favorite for the most part, but also entertained Miami, Oregon and Michigan. USC did not offer him early in the recruiting process, possibly adding to his mixed emotions about the Trojans. At different times in the last two months, Telemaque alluded to Oregon and Michigan as possible leaders in the race, with USC still somewhat of a favorite.
Announcing on High School Spotlight
Vaughn Telemaque along with teammate Jurrell Casey taped their decisions on Wednesday more than 24-hours earlier at the Fox Sports Net Prime Ticket studio. As expected, Jurrell Casey selected USC. Telemaque ended all speculation by chosing Miami.
