Randall Carroll: Update on Recruiting

Randall Carroll Committed to the Trojans September 2007

Randall Carroll is a 2009 soft-verbal commit to the USC Trojans. Carroll committed to the Trojans as a sophomore on September 14, 2007. The 6'- 197 lb. junior is a wide receiver for Cathedral High School (Los Angeles, CA), he can also play cornerback and running back. He will probably be the fastest receiver from California in 2009.

Carroll rushed for 743 yards and eight touchdowns during his sophomore season at Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral. As a freshman, he rushed for 327 yards on 31 carries and scored one touchdown. He also added a 75-yard kickoff return for a score and had a four-catch, 161-yard receiving game.

He discussed his recent visit to UCLA, "It was good, it was an opportunity to see all their signees this year. It was alright, my cousin (Jonathan Franklin) signed so it's cool."

We asked him how it affected his commitment to USC, he replied, "It didn't change any thoughts for me. Now it's a different environment, UCLA with a new coaching staff. Everything's pretty much the same. It's a lot better than last year. I want to see what they do this year because right now they're just talking."

A track-star for Cathedral High, he said he'll compete in, "The 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x400." We asked what his goals for the season are and he said, "Hopefully in the 100, I'll get to 10.3 and 200 to run 21 flat. I'm trying to get to that this year. I've been feeling stronger than last year, so hopefully that's what I'll get to."

A speedy receiver, indeed.

On the contrary, for football, Carroll wants to improve his route running. He said speed is okay, but route running makes the difference for a receiver.

SCPlaybook also spoke with his coach, Chris Flores. Speaking about Carroll's improvement this year, Flores said, "He's doing good, he's doing real well. He put on a little weight; put more muscle on, so he's doing well. Right now he's 6' and 197 lbs."

We asked what Carroll's junior season totals were and he said, "I think he had 59 receptions for 1,300 yards and about 650 rushing. And he missed two games."

Speaking about Carroll's commitment to USC, he said "Right now I think he's just weighing his options. I think he feels really comfortable with USC, they made him feel really welcome and he seems to like that a lot. I think for him, it's just going to be where he feels most comfortable at. I think he really likes USC."

Finally Flores said, "Coaches called to ask about Chris Jimenez. Teams are just beginning to take notice of him. He's about 6'4"- 315 lbs. and plays center for us. Cal (Berkeley) is really interested in him and a couple other schools. The USC coaches called to get some information on him."
