Lamar Woodley interview

WeAreSC caught up with Lamarr Woodley, the big time linebacker out of Saginaw, Michigan. He talks about how his season is coming along, some visits that he's scheduled, and his interest in the Trojans

One of the most highly touted defensive prospects in the Midwest, Woodley has been his usual impressive self this past season, using his 6'2, 250 pound frame and 4.7 speed to cause havoc on opposing offenses.  Despite all of his skills, Woodley saw his season come to an end this past weekend when his team was upset in the playoffs, "We lost in the Districts in the first round of the playoffs, 7-6 to a team called Romeo, near Detroit," he said.  "I had about 8 or 9 tackles and 1 sack.  We went 8-1.  I had 70 or 80 tackles, 10 sacks, a touchdown, and 3 or 4 fumble recoveries.  I blocked a punt and recovered it for that touchdown."

There was some big news yesterday that concerned Woodley when it was announced that Michigan State, a constant on his list of favorites, had fired head coach Bobby Williams.  "That's just what I heard too!" exclaimed Woodley when the topic came up.  So, does the firing have any impact on his decision?  An obviously shocked Woodley, who admits that he was pretty close to the departing coach, would only say "As of right now, I don't really want to say too much about that."

In discussing his schools of interest however, Michigan State still held its spot and he still plans on taking that visit as scheduled, "Michigan, Michigan State, and USC.  Those are the main ones.  I don't have any favorite or anything.  I've scheduled visits to all three of them.  I'm coming to USC on the 29th, I'm going down to Michigan the first week of December, I was supposed to go on November 3rd but I had to change it because we had a game, and I'm going to Michigan State on November 16th.  I'm also looking at Florida."

The Trojans have been among Woodley's favorites for quite awhile now, and he explained that this is mainly due to the coaching staff, "You know, their coaching staff has a lot of experience.  Either they've played in the NFL or they've coached in the NFL, so I figure they can help me get to the next level because they know so much.  I talk to the coaches every week.  I mainly talk to Coach Holt.  He's always so excited and he talks to me about how they can use me over at USC and how I could fit into their program and play right away."  Woodley also mentioned that the Trojan coaching staff is recruiting him as an outside linebacker.

Woodley added that he doesn't plan on wasting anybody's time once he knows where he wants to go, "As soon as I know, that's when I'll commit, probably right after my visits," he said. Top Stories
