Day 7, Friday: Running Backs Rule

One Day After Receivers Dominate, Tailbacks State Their Case

The Trojans came out to practice without pads, and mostly practiced plays for the afternoon. Practice started as usual, with the team breaking up into positions and practicing techniques and drills.

They then moved to offense-defense units, with the offense practicing on Howard Jones Field and defense on Brian Kennedy Field. After moving to Brian Kennedy Field, the whole team went to stretching and warm-up exercises.

Full Team Practice (11-on-11's)

After warm-ups, the team moved into 11-on-11's for the rest of the afternoon. The quarterbacks each got lots of plays on the field.

Each quarterback led a second series of downs. Sanchez started with a hand off to Stafon Johnson for a hard run. This was followed with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Anthony McCoy. The series ended with a hard run by Broderick Green.

Mitch Mustain led a series, followed by Corp. Corp had a handoff to Broderick Green for short yardage. C.J. Gable then took the ball for an inside run and a touchdown. This was followed a few moments later with another touchdown run by Marc Tyler.

Teams returned to the field with each quarterback again leading a series of downs. Sanchez led off again, the first play was a hand-off to Allen Bradford, who ripped off an impressive touchdown run. This was followed with a short touchdown pass to Bradford once again.

Aaron Corp returned to the field, and again worked out of the shotgun. The first play resulted in a long run by Tyler off of a hand-off. Mustain finished this series uneventfully.

The punting unit returned to the field, Billy O'Malley and Greg Woidneck taking turns punting away to Stafon Johnson.

Full teams returned to the field for one last series of downs by each quarterback. Mustain took the field first, with the ‘ones,' completed a short pass to Johnson followed by two incompletions, and an interception by Marshall Jones.

Sanchez then took the field, had an incomplete pass, a completed pass to David Ausberry and ended his day throwing a pass, which was tipped off of the line and intercepted by Taylor Mays.

Corp came in for the final series of the day and led the team to his most successful series of downs to date. After a scramble for about 10 yards, he was sacked then completed passes to Rhett Ellison and Travon Patterson. Corp followed this up with a touchdown run. On the final play of the day, Corp tossed a gem of a pass to Garrett Green for a touchdown.
