Quoting Carroll: Thursday Practice

The Trojans had another intense practice session on Thursday highlighted by the spectacular play of defensive tackle Christian Tupou. SCPlaybook was there and caught up with Pete Carroll to get the coaches thoughts on the Trojan Huddle, Fili Moala and much more.

Pete Carroll on Fili Moala and Gerald Washington sitting out practice:

"Fili (Moala) was real sick and Gerald Washington had spasms. All of the sudden we had four or five defensive linemen out here for the whole practice so we had to scale it down a little bit and make sure we could get through and get good work. We didn't get as many plays as we normally would but we had good work."

Pete Carroll on dividing the team up for the Trojan Huddle:

"We're going to basically divide it up so that the one's play against the one's and the two's play against the two's. We are going to do it in a game format."

Pete Carroll on Adam Goodman and Cooper Stephenson receiving full scholarships:

"Today we announced to the team that Adam Goodman and Cooper Stephenson would be going on scholarship. Both of those kids have done a great job for us and Adam has really elevated to where he is a terrific part of the team. We don't hesitate to play him at fullback or any of the special team situations. Cooper is going to take over the snapping duties and he is also a utility tight end for us. Both of those guys have done a nice job and so we are happy to reward them starting in the summertime."

Pete Carroll on the play of Christian Tupou:

"Really, I thought Christian Tupou had a spectacular practice. He didn't have anyone to back him up all day long and he just kept going. There was a time where he made three or four tackles in a row. That's a big deal for us. We have been looking hard to find the replacement for Sedrick (Ellis) and without Averell (Spicer) out here to compete, Tupou's had a great opportunity and he's making the most of it. He's improved tremendously during the springtime."
