Clay de Leon caught up with Everett Benyard III from Cathedral Catholic High School (San Diego). Benyard attended the USC Lineman Camp on Sunday. He stands in at 6'7", 328 lbs. and will be a senior this season.
We asked Benyard what his camp experience was like:
"Oh, man it was a great experience because of the electricity, and knowing I was playing on the field with all of the other greats who went to USC it was just an amazing feeling. Going up against some of the best competition on the West Coast."
"The coaching was just tremendous. You can tell all the coaches had a lot of passion and the players were feeding off of that passion. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had in my life."
You say that with a lot of emotion, have you been to other camps?
"Yes I've been to the UCLA camp last week, the Scout.com/UnderArmour Camp, the Nike Camp that was held at USC and I attended the DeBartolo Sports University Camp. This one with the electricity was way more intense."
What offers have you gotten thus far? Do you have a favorite?
Have the USC coaches given you an indication of your status?
Yes, they said I'm on the radar and I definitely have a chance.
Who's recruiting you from USC?
Coach John Morton.
If you got an offer from USC would you take it?
It would definitely be one of my top schools.
What are your summer goals?
"This summer my goals are to better my skills, work on my technique, shed a few pounds and get stronger. I also want to visit schools and get a feel for which schools I'll be able to attend."
What are your goals for your senior season?
"My goal is to win the CIF, again, make it to state and win the state (finals). I'd like to be an All-American and an All-Region selection. I'd also like to hone my skills and be ready for the next level."
Benyard reports a 2.9 overall GPA and a 1470 on his SAT.
