As a sophomore, Parker averaged six tackles a game and was a First-Team All-Marine League selection but he really made name for himself with his ability to deliver the big hit.
"I would describe myself as a hitter," said Parker, who showed good cover skills at the UA/Scout L.A. Combine where he was named to the All-Combine Underclass Team. "I like to punish people going across the middle and stuff like that."
Parker, who is considered one of the top defensive backs on the west coast in the 2010 class, is new to the recruiting process but has been hearing from some of the top programs in college football.
"It's been going good and it's a good experience because nothing like this has ever happened to me," Parker said. "I am just happy to go through it.
Parker attended the UCLA Camp this summer and came away very impressed with the campus and direction of the program.
"I like the talent that they get every year. They always pick up a lot of city kids and they are just good all-around," said Parker. "The campus is nice and the players are good people."
The 6-1, 190-pound safety is a high-energy player and can relate to the intensity and passion that the USC players bring to the game.
"I like how their players are big and they play nasty in the games," Parker said of the Trojans. "They are out there and put everything out on the field. I like how Pete Carroll coaches, and how they manage their players.
"I consider him as more of a hype coach, and I like that about him."
While the recruiting process is starting to heat up, Parker is hard at work with his high school teammates preparing for what could be his breakout junior season.
"I have been banging the weights real hard, trying to get quick and develop my game," Parker said of his summer workouts. "I am trying to improve my quickness and get stronger.
"I am just trying to lead my team to the championship and be a better player. I want to make everyone around me better too by being a field general."
