Quoting Carroll: Friday Practice

The Trojans had an intense practice on Friday that featured hard hits, big plays and an injury to starting quarterback Mark Sanchez. Kevin Carden caught up with Pete Carroll after practice to get the coaches thoughts on all the action.

Pete Carroll on Mark Sanchez's injury:

"Mark dislocated his kneecap. They put it back in (on the field). There are no other complications. It's a day-to-day deal. We'll wait and see. He's real encouraged and the doctors are, too. It will be immobilized over the weekend, then he'll start rehab on Monday. It's day-to-day and we'll see how it responds."

Pete Carroll on the play of freshman Jurrell Casey:

"Jurrell Casey had a very good day today. I'm really excited about this guy at the nose tackle spot. In a spot that really is one of question with Averell (Spicer) coming back off his injury, this is a wide open competition and he has done very well the first couple days out here. If you noticed, he went with the first group quite a bit today. He looks very much like Mike Patterson."

Pete Carroll on Brice Butler's ankle injury:

"In the walk-thru today he turned his ankle and his ankle blew up a little bit. He has a classic lateral ankle sprain."

Pete Carroll on Jeff Byers:

"He's been out here a little bit. He's still going to be a while before we get him on the field for real but it's always good to have him around. He is a great kid."
