Carroll post game comments

Pete Carroll comments on KMPC radio about being carried off on his players shoulders: "I've been a coach for a long time and you see that happen sometimes but for that emotion to explode out of your team, to have them do that was great. I've dreamed about it, I thought that maybe someday that might happen and I could handle it but it was a very surreal situation to be up there with those two big studs carrying me out of there."

Petros Papadakis

"We're down here with the man who was carried off on his players shoulders.  Coach, did you expect to come in here and have the kind of dominating performance or did you think it would be a lot tougher game, especially in the fourth quarter?"

Pete Carroll

"We really prepared for a tough game thinking UCLA just had to win, I mean they just had to after last year and the last couple years in a row.  We really expected their very best shot and so we tried to get ready for this game with that thought in mind.  So many things happened right from the start and we just took it from them and capitalized beautifully.  It was so much fun, I can't tell you how much fun we had during this game.  It was like we didn't want it to end, we wanted to keep on playing as long as we could."

Petros

"Tyler Ebell was taken out of this game rather quickly, we're you surprised that they went away from him so quickly?"

Carroll

"No, I was surprised he was still in there in the fourth quarter to be honest."

Petros

"Defensively did it present any problems with the two quarterbacks from UCLA?"

Carroll

"We really got after them pretty good.  When the score got going it was really difficult for them because that's what they dreaded the most I'm sure, getting behind early to the point where their quarterbacks had to throw it.  We just mixed our stuff, came after them and made it real hard for them.  I would think it was a pretty difficult day from their end of it.  Our guys had a blast, we got to play real aggressively as the game went along and it was just terrific defense today."

Paul McDonald

"Talk about your "stuff", you said you mixed your stuff up but what is it about your stuff that is working so well right now?"

Carroll

"We've put together a really good system on both sides of the ball.  We didn't get it done last year and in the race to get it done we didn't, I'm embarrassed about that and the fact is we couldn't get our offense and defense up as fast as we needed to.  This off-season was extraordinary, we thought we had something heading into spring ball and it shows, we have a lot of offense, we have a lot of defense, the kids understand what we're doing, we have a lot of flexibility and that makes it real hard for our opponents.  When you have a bunch of guys who play real hard, who want to work hard and get it done to turn this thing around for the Trojans, it makes us a very difficult team to play against."

McDonald

"How much belief does everybody have right now?  It just seems to be growing and growing and growing."

Carroll

"It's pretty strong Paul, it is.  My belief in these guys is really strong, I really thought we could win this football game today and I thought we could play really well against these guys as we started to add it up as the week along.  You still have to go out and do it though and the thing I didn't know was the emotional side and the feeling that they might be on such an emotional high that they might be able to overcome what we could do.  Today they never could get on track and it went for us all the way."

McDonald

"Anything you didn't like about today's game?"

Carroll

"There were a couple things but we're not gonna talk about them."

McDonald

"One thing I noticed is that you've slowed down since last year trying to get out of the way on the Gatorade.  Your quickness is not what it was, last year you saw it coming and got out of the way like a cat."

Carroll

"Yeah, I know, I know.  I started to make a move to make them miss me the first time and then I just thought I had to suck it up and take it.  I could have made it miss but I just glared it down, had to look down the barrel and just jump right on it."

Pete Arbogast

"Have you ever been carried off the field before?"

Carroll

"No, I haven't but I'll tell you, I've been a coach for a long time and you see that happen sometimes but for that emotion to explode out of your team, to have them do that was great.  I've dreamed about it, I thought that maybe someday that might happen and I could handle it but it was a very surreal situation to be up there with those two big studs carrying me out of there.  It's something I'll never forget and it's just more fun.  We just had so much fun in the locker room, so much fun on the sidelines during the game, it's just a great time to be a Trojan.  I'm so thrilled that we get to give a whole other year to our fans, they get another year of bringing it up the way we beat UCLA."

Arbogast

"Next week is the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football and you might need to win like this again to get a BCS bowl berth."

Carroll

"I don't know…whatever.  Here's what we're going to do.  We're gonna go back to work on Monday, we're gonna do the stuff that we do, we're gonna stay right on track.  We didn't do a darn thing different this week and we're not gonna do a darn thing different next week.  We'll just get prepared to play our style and their gonna have to come in here and beat us to tell you the truth."
