Quoting Carroll: Sunday Practice

A large crowd of USC fans were on hand to watch the Trojans first practice in pads under the lights on Sunday night. Kevin Carden was there and caught up with USC Head Coach Pete Carroll after the exciting practice to get his on thoughts Mitch Mustain, D.J. Shoemate and more.

Pete Carroll on the benefits of having open practices:

"What this did tonight is it added atmosphere. We had a big night. It was fun for everybody and our guys are performing. They can feel what it's like in a game and that's good. We are trying to get ready for a game and this adds to the atmosphere and environment."

Pete Carroll on the performance of Mitch Mustain and Aaron Corp:

"I though they did fine. We are still rough and we have to help them by protecting better. They made good decisions and knocked the ball around where it was supposed to go and they are progressing. They are doing good work. They both led scoring drives and made some good throws."

Pete Carroll on D.J. Shoemate:

"D.J. Shoemate made a big-time impression tonight. He played great, he was running and hitting and made a couple tough catches. That's what you hope to see on a night like this."

Pete Carroll on USC's team speed:

"Our receiver speed is really elevated with Damian (Williams) and Ronald Johnson and Travon (Patterson) now out there healthy. Those guys, plus the running backs are so fast. I think Blake Ayles has added speed to us at the tight end position as well. We have always been able to run on defense but I think this is the fastest offensive group that we have had. This is a really fast football team."
