Quoting Carroll: Sunday Practice

The Trojans offense saw the return of four players but the loss of one their most dangerous weapons. Kevin Carden caught up with Pete Carroll to get the coaches thoughts on Joe McKnight, the play of the offensive line and more.

Pete Carroll on the return of Jeff Byers:

"Jeff Byers has been cleared to practice with us now which we are really excited about. We are going to break him slowly but we are thrilled to get him back. We get his experience back and his toughness. His approach to the game is really a great addition for the young guys up front."

Pete Carroll on the play of the offensive line:

"We have improved a good deal up front with the pass protection stuff. I think the guys are taking a turn confidence-wise. We just executed much better last night and again today so I think we are on track to really start improving now."

Pete Carroll on the play of the tight ends at Saturday's scrimmage:

"I really liked the tight ends last night. Jimmy Miller had the best day he has ever had for us and Rhett (Ellison) did very well too. Also, Anthony McCoy had his best day blocking of camp. That position group just seemed to pop out in the scrimmage."

Pete Carroll on Joe McKnight's injured elbow:

"He hyperextended his elbow last night. It's unfortunate Joe keeps coming up with something. I'm disappointed for Joe that he can't get out here. He has missed a lot of practice already. I don't think it's going to be but a couple of days though. I don't think it is a serious deal."
