Sunday Practice Report

The Trojans continued to prepare for Thursday's matchup against Oregon State with a spirited practice at Howard Jones Field. Look inside for all the news, notes and quotes from Sunday's practice.

Galippo Cleared for Contact

USC linebacker Chris Galippo has been practicing in a limited capacity the last few weeks and was cleared for full contact for the first time on Sunday.

"I just got cleared today to go full contact," Galippo said after practice on Sunday. "I saw Dr. Watkins today and he gave us the go ahead to go full speed."

While Galippo has been cleared for full contact in practices he hasn't yet been cleared to play in the Trojans' game Thursday night against Oregon State.

"That's still up in the air," Galippo said of the possibility of playing against the Beavers. "With the short week they don't want to throw me in there just to throw me in there.

"I am still hoping to get cleared to play against Oregon State. We will see how I practice this week and that will probably determine whether or not I play."

After practice, Pete Carroll said he won't hesitate to use Galippo on defense and special teams if he is available.

"We will involve him if he can go," Pete Carroll said. "He will be a part of special teams and he will have a backup opportunity.

"He's not ready for full-time duty but he could help us if we need him."

Along with Galippo being cleared for contact, Shareece Wright and Stanley Havili were back on the practice field Sunday.

"We are getting real close to having tremendous health," Carroll said.

Notes from the Field

• Shareece Wright returned to the practice field on Sunday but hasn't been cleared for contact. "I plan on him being OK. I think he feels pretty good," Carroll said.

• Senior wide receiver Patrick Turner had one of his best practices of the season and looks very comfortable in his new role as a team leader.

On Sunday, Turner beat Josh Pinkard for a 55-yard touchdown reception on a perfectly placed pass from Mark Sanchez and also made a tremendous leaping grab over Shareece Wright for a big gain.

After practice, Pete Carroll praised the play and leadership that Turner has exhibited this season.

"He's got great confidence now," Carroll said. "He's really playing well and we are really excited about his involvement and his input for our team."

Aaron Corp and Mitch Mustain both rotated at quarterback for the service team on Sunday, allowing Garrett Green to get some reps as the No.2 quarterback.

"We are giving Garrett (Green) a good look. We are just going to keep the competition wide open," Pete Carroll said. "Sark and I both think that is the right thing to do for the spot and see what happens.

"Garrett is not out of it, he's done a really nice job when he has had his chance. We want to make sure and keep him available to us as we try to figure it out."

David Buehler connected on 3 of 4 field goal attempts including a 50-yard field goal.

• The linebackers stayed after practice to get some extra work with Coach Norton.
