Drean Rucker interview

One of the linebackers USC had targeted early on in the process was Drean Rucker from Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley, California. Rucker gave a verbal commitment to USC and he discusses his thoughts on the Trojan victory over the Irish:

Drean blew-up at the USC Nike Camp in April, and has since led his team to a 10-1-1 record.  Canyon Springs has a semi-final playoff game on Saturday, December 7th against Corona Centennial at 7:00pm.  So far, Drean has garnered 1st team All-County and 1st team All-League awards as well as being named his league's Defensive MVP.  When asked what his stats were on the season, Drean said, "I lost track awhile ago.  I don't really keep track of stats.  I was more concerned about improving my team's record.  We were 4-6 last season, and we have some new coaches as well as allot of seniors playing better this season."  "Some of the local schools wanted me to transfer for my senior year, but I wanted to get this thing turned around here."  Drean has been playing middle linebacker and some fullback for Canyon Springs.  He is being recruited to play middle linebacker for USC.

Drean was at the SC/Notre Dame game last Saturday and loved it.  He said, "I was watching the linebackers most of the game.  They play a little deeper than I am used to, but I like how active they are."  "I am really excited about coming to SC.  USC and the coaches have been really good to me."  "I thought the SC/Notre Dame game was going to be a good game, but SC just demolished them."  "I watched the SC/UCLA game on TV and SC dominated there too."  "I am really looking forward to going to SC in June after my graduation and starting workouts."  "Coach Carlisle told me he would have a personal program waiting for me."  "I have been in speaking with mainly Coach Davis, but I have also spoke with Coach Carroll allot."  "The coaches have said, if I am the best middle linebacker in fall camp, I will start next fall.  I can't wait."  "I will be visiting on January 10th with my parents who are very excited.  My mom talks about it everyday.  She has been to all my games and is now a big football fan."

Rucker is 6'1", 230 pounds, and runs a 4.6 forty.  He has a vertical of 30", can do 20 reps of 225 on the bench, and benches out at a max of 370.  He is currently the 14th rated linebacker in the nation by The Insiders.com, and is rated the #2 linebacker in the west by PacWest.  He models his game after Derrick Brooks from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in playing sideline to sideline with his speed.  Drean will be taking the SAT again on Saturday, December 7th in hopes of getting a better score.  He already has a qualifying GPA.  He wants to major in computer graphics in college.
