Quoting Carroll: Arizona Postgame

TUCSON, Ariz. - The USC defense stepped up once again and led the Trojans to a 17-10 victory over the Arizona Wildcats on the road. Look inside to see what USC head coach Pete Carroll had to say about the hard fought win.

Pete Carroll on the overall game:

"This was a really tough game tonight with two teams going at it for four quarters. We played tremendous on the defensive end… Tonight was a big game for them down here and it lived up to it. Mike Stoops and his staff have a tremendous team and they really gave us a challenge tonight. They didn't back down and made big plays."

Pete Carroll on shutting down Arizona's passing game:

"I don't know if I would have believed it if you told me we'd have so much success against their terrific awesome passing game. We were able to get a great pass rush and disrupt what they wanted to do."

Pete Carroll on stopping Arizona on fourth-and-one:

"We got some great pressure up the middle and were able to drive them back. It was obviously a huge play in the game….We just went after the sneak and it was a fantastic job by Fili (Moala) and all the guys that were up front. Everybody had to hit that one right to stop them for no yards."

Pete Carroll on the play of USC's defense:

"I loved the way our guys played on defense tonight. I thought this was a really good, good night against a really big-time offense. It happened because of the rush. It happened because of the coverage and it happened because these guys just wouldn't let up. I though that was a really impressive night of defense because these guys are so good on offense."

Pete Carroll on the play of Stafon Johnson:

"I thought Stafon Johnson played a great football game tonight. Running the football he was just tenacious. He had a great block on the touchdown pass that we threw to Stanley (Havili). He scores a touchdown and runs the punts all over the field. I thought he had his most impressive game. We really were riding his shoulders tonight. He did a great job to carry us."

Pete Carroll on USC's inability to make big plays on offense:

"We just didn't hit them. We missed our chances tonight. Right in the first drive we had Patrick (Turner) open for a touchdown and we missed him and then we missed Damian (Williams) on the sidelines for another 30-yard play. On our opportunities, we just didn't quite get it tonight and give them credit. They have always played good deep pass defense."
