Brandon Ting interview

One thing my brother and I were pretty excited about, they showed us the lockers and they had our name plates already made. They had our jerseys, shoes, and everything all lined up in a locker. After they showed us our jerseys, they opened up a curtain, and there on the other side of the locker room was all of the jerseys of all of the players currently playing in the NFL right now.

WeAreSC- How was the visit to USC over the weekend?

Ting- "Oh it was great.  My brother and I were paired up with Darrell Rideaux to see some sights.  We went to Universal Walk.  One thing we told the coaches when we left was that we actually gained some weight, just because of all of the great food they were feeding us.  It was just fantastic.  We went to Papadakis' restaurant.  It was pretty funny.  They had belly dancers and the coaches got into it and some of the other recruits got into it.  We went to this place at Universal called Tutu-tatango or something like that.  They had an amazing amount of food, so it was a cool deal."

WeAreSC- Did you get to check out the campus?

Ting- "Yeah, we had a tour of the campus.  We got to see the actual dorms that we're going to stay in for the spring.  We got to see the stuff that we wanted to see.  It was kind of good to clear up some insecurities we had about going in early and find out exactly what environment we're going to stay in, and like I said, seeing the dorms, seeing where we're going to practice, and finalizing everything.  It kind of motivated us to get ready for spring ball at USC and just getting in the mind set."

WeAreSC- Did you take trip over to the Coliseum?

Ting- "Oh yeah, it was pretty neat.  We went to the Coliseum the night of the Papadakis restaurant.  They bused us with our parents and all of the other recruits and hosts and a couple of the recruiting ladies.  We did the walk and everything.  Coach Orgeron was getting into it.  It was pretty fun. So it was a real cool deal.  Then after that, we went into the actual field and they announced our names on the big screen.  Overall it was just a great experience."

WeAreSC- There's been some rumors floating around lately that you and your brother might be taking a look at Stanford, what's the latest on that and did you firm up your commitment to USC this weekend?

Tings- "It was a thing where their coaches kind of encouraged us to check it out because it's basically in our back yard.  They actually accepted us, so basically Coach Teevens talked to us about being accepted, because they thought they couldn't lose anything just by having us check it out.  We were kind of resistant towards it because we respect our verbal commitment to USC to the absolute fullest, and we wouldn't want to disrespect Coach Carroll and any of his coaching staff at all, and we kind of let Coach Carroll know what the deal was with that.  My brother and I were kind of resistant in that sense.  We knew we had a verbal agreement.  We just talked to Coach Teevens and he touched base with us about some of the matters he kind of brought to the table.  We respected them for continuing the process, but we actually talked to Coach Teevens and let him know that we're 100% USC.  He actually respected us for that.  He said it was kind of mutual in that sense because he'd rather have us tell him up front and just keep the process from going on.  So we're enrolling in the spring at USC the second week of January and we're 100% USC.  We've known the rumors have gone on and we've talked to Coach Carroll and our recruiting coach from SC, Tim Davis, to clear things up, and we're enrolling at USC this spring."

WeAreSC- Did you get an opportunity to talk to the coaches on the trip about where you'll be playing at and where you might fit in?

Ting- "Yeah, we actually did.  We talked to the DB Coaches, Coach Rocky Seto and Coach Burns, and we actually had like a fifteen minute talk with Coach Carroll.  Being the defensive coordinator, he was looking at us as cornerbacks, and we'd see if possibly in the first year, if we could make an impact on special teams, and if things work out we could see the field possibly on nickel-dime coverages.  If it's not at cornerback, he actually brought up the fact that he might see us at the safety position.  He just wanted to make sure that we go in there with the mentality that we can possibly play and if we just work and bust our butts we can see the field at an early stage."

WeAreSC- So you guys are starting up at SC in about a month.

Ting- "We have this week and next week.  Our actual school ends at the end of January, but we've arranged with ou
