Hebron Fangupo is a classic run stopper in the middle of the defensive line. He will compete with Christian Tupou, Jurrell Casey, Armond Armstead and Averell Spicer at tackle, and has the ability to push for playing time immediately. The 6-foot-2, 330-pound tackle has a quick first step and ran a sub 5.0 forty at the JCFootball.com So Cal Combine last year.
Hebron started playing football as a junior in high school and is still a bit raw but has unlimited potential.
According to Carroll: "He's got really good quickness at the line of scrimmage. His initial quickness is there, a kind of explosion and play-making ability that you love. It's coincidental that an opportunity opens up at the 3-technique with Fili (Moala) taking off. Here comes another 300-pound kid that can come in and fit the bill. We'll work him at both tackle spots but we'd love to see him compete at that spot and see how he fits in."
Reason for Choosing USC: "When I came down from the islands, I asked everyone ‘what was the best school around?' and it was USC. I said I wanted to play at USC and my whole family and friends laughed at me. They said I wasn't good enough or I didn't have what it takes."
Future Impact: Don't be surprised to see Fangupo getting playing time in 2009 in place of Fili Moala. He will have a lot of competition at the tackle spot but should make an impact next season.
