Q&A with Trojan verbal Lendale White

"Next year when they see me, I'm gonna hit like a hurricane. Pretty much that's really all I can say. I know this off season is going to be grueling and hard, but that's what is going to take."

Wearesc: Why SC?

Lendale: Because that's where I felt the most comfortable at. The coaches, playing time, I just like the school overall, the people and everything.

Wearesc: Who was the most impressive player in the Army bowl practices?

Lendale: To me, I think Whitney Lewis and Kyle Wright.

Wearesc: Why?

Lendale: Not to take anything from Kyle, but he didn't look like the athlete that he is at first, I didn't know he has speed like that. Whitney Lewis is just an unbelievable athlete. He's big, fast and can catch.

Wearesc: Did you try to recruit other players to SC during the week?

Lendale: I talked to some kids to see where they were going, but you know, they gotta do what they gotta do.

Wearesc: Any interesting specific examples?

Lendale: I talked to Whitney Lewis and Steve Smith a lot about it. They both said they were gonna give Southern Cal a hard look. I really hope they come. I got along with them great, so I wouldn't mind seeing them at SC.

Wearesc: Tell me about coming into SC with Reggie Bush, another highly touted RB?

Lendale: I'm excited. The competition is going to do nothing but make me a better player.

Wearesc: What are your thoughts on Reggie as a player?

Lendale: He's smooth, he's a nice running back. But, not to take anything from him, he's a great athlete, but at the same time, I think I'm just as good as him. It's gonna be who's going to work harder, who wants it the most next year.

Wearesc: What are your plans for the off-season?

Lendale: I'm not sure, but next year when they see me, I'm gonna hit like a hurricane. Pretty much that's really all I can say. I know this off season is going to be grueling and hard, but that's what is going to take.

Wearesc: So what exactly are you going to do?

Lendale: Whatever it takes to become the man. I'm gonna run, get real strong, get real fast, get real conditioned.

Wearesc: Do you look to get even bigger or maintain your current weight?

Lendale: My goal is to come in at 220 and real fast, and play. I have a track coach that I work with, his name is Tony Whales, and he's probably the best in the nation.

Wearesc: Are you going to run track?

Lendale: Probably not this year, but I've done it before. Track isn't for me though. It's not that I'm not fast, I just don't enjoy it that much. I'd rather lift weights and work on my speed.

Wearesc: What's your best 100 time?

Lendale: 10.8 or 10.7, somewhere in there.
