Scholarship Math, Chapter 2

For my own entertainment, I've tried to organize the maze of information available on the Internet about our verbal commitments, early enrollments and grayshirting. I've displayed a running total of scholarships in the left column starting with 57 since there are already 56 spoken for by returning players.

If you recall the last time we did this exercise (12/2/02) we came up with 27 available scholarships by deducting the returning scholarship players, 58, from our total allowed, 85. As predicted, things have changed. According to recent announcements, Aaron Graham and Darryl Poston will not be using their scholarships. So, we now have 56 scholarship players returning, the number available becomes 29. There are a couple of other players who may not be able to continue, so other scholarships may open up later in the year. If you want to refer to Chapter 1 it can be found at: Scholarship Math

For my own entertainment, I've tried to organize the maze of information available on the Internet about our verbal commitments, early enrollments and grayshirting. I've displayed a running total of scholarships in the left column starting with 57 since there are already 56 spoken for by returning players.

In Section 1 below, I've listed the mid-year enrollees and added Manuel Wright as a symbol of my positive thinking. If Manuel slips to the fall, I think it will mean one less scholarship available to give since he will need to be counted in the yearly limit of 25.

In Section 2 are listed the publicly announced verbal commitments. At the end of each entry, inside the curly brackets, I display a running total of this year's scholarship quota, 1 through 25.

In Section 3, I've listed those players who have been reported as grayshirting - meaning that they will enroll mid-year and will therefore count on the 2004 scholarships quota.
