Prater heading West for a visit to USC's No.1 ranked wide receiver Kyle Prater (6-5, 205) from Proviso West High in Hillside, Ill., said he will take an unofficial visit to USC on August 10 and will take his official visit to USC when the Trojans play San Jose State on Sept. 5.

Prater also said he is favoring USC over Illinois, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Notre Dame and plans on taking official visits to each school.

"I've built a really good relationship with the coaches at USC," said Prater when asked why USC is his top school. "I've been talking to Coach (Ken) Norton (assistant head coach/linebackers) and Coach (Pete) Carroll and I want to get out there and check it out. I talk to Coach (John) Morton (wide receivers) a lot, I talk Coach Norton just about every other day and I just talked to Coach Carroll two days ago."

We asked asked Prater what his impression of Pete Carroll is?

"Coach Carroll is a high energy coach, he's real cool and he wants me to come in and compete as a freshman. I'm not guaranteed anything and I want to come in, work hard and compete for my spot."

Prater is familiar with USC's tradition of developing big and physical wide receivers, and he's been impressed with the development of wide receivers like Dwayne Jarrett and Patrick Turner.

"I have been watching USC for a longtime and the players that they put out," Prater told our own Kevin Carden back in early May. "They produce every year, so it's a really good school and I have to strongly consider them as my choice. I like the big receivers they put out and the way they produce, and get them NFL-ready. That's another key thing."

Tennessee hosted Prater this past weekend and this is what he told James Bryant from about the visit.

"It was a great trip," Prater told "The coaches were really great there; they stand out the most about the trip.I have heard so many great things about the school, I just wanted to take the trip and see things up close and personal."

Another out-of-state school Prater has visited is Oklahoma. And he had high praise for Bob Stoops, and the Sooners.

"I like everything about Oklahoma," said Prater. "I like Coach Stoops, Coach (Jay) Norvell and everybody is cool there. It's an explosive offense and that's the type of offense I want to be in."

SCPlaybook will speak to Prater and get his thoughts after his Aug. 10 visit to USC. Top Stories
