Recruiting status

A look at the remaining prospects on the USC wish list and an updated status on their recruitment.

At this point the Trojans will not be bringing Stephen Reaves from Plant, FL in for a visit.  Instead they will focus on at least one top QB for next season with early names including JD Booty and Rocky Hinds.

Maurice Drew is the only running back left on the board.  He had a good visit to SC last weekend and will visit ULCA this weekend with Cal following that.  Maurice has said the presence of three other highly ranked tailbacks in this Trojan class will not affect his decision but the weekend visit gave him a good look at big Chauncey Washington who was also on the trip.  Our coaches did a solid job of showing Drew his role in this offense separate from the others and all we can do is wait for his final decision.

How are we sitting here with two weeks left until signing day and we have no receivers in this class?  Actually we may have one as Desmond Reed has been told not to assume he will play corner next season since the team may need him on the offensive side of the ball.  Reed is a playmaker and will see more action at WR as a freshman than he would at corner.  As for the others, we're still waiting for Steve Smith to make a final decision with rumblings for days that he was an imminent verbal to the Trojans.  The longer it takes the more you have to take the Tennessee option seriously because there is obviously something holding him up.  Whitney Lewis was scheduled for an in-home visit tonight but now that meeting may take place at the school.  Lewis heads to Florida State this weekend so we'll see where he stands after a weekend with his buddy Lorenzo.  Andre Caldwell remains a longshot while Mark Bradford is still a possibility although he lists several other choices ahead of the Trojans.   A junior college option could be Jamel Richardson from Victor Valley.

We're set right now on the offensive line with Radovich, Baker, Kalil and Draper although we may see at least one defensive line recruit eventually move to the OL .

The big target remaining is Ryan Watson from Louisiana and he will trip to Miami this weekend after a visit to local school LSU last weekend.  Despite flowery trip reports the feeling is that Watson will not be heading to Baton Rouge so the Trojans should battle the Canes.  If Watson does appear headed to SC look for a possible visit from his teammate Carnell Stewart who is also heading to Miami this weekend but has listed a possible visit to USC for next weekend.

There have been a lot of stories floating around about Lamarr Woodley and a possible commit.  We know Pete Carroll had an in-home visit this week with Lamarr, his father, aunt and uncle and by all accounts the visit went very well.  So far the family is saying no commit with a planned announcement coming closer to signing day.  The Trojans are right in the thick of it on this one with local schools Michigan and Michigan State so you know the coaches will stay on top of the situation.  There were some reports earlier this week that the Trojans had tried to contact Michael Okwo but the Mira Costa star did not return the call and does not appear to have any interest in USC at this point.  The Trojans stopped recruiting Michael last month and his trip to Stanford did not go well so he could end up a Bruin.

One possibility could be Ventura College corner Will Poole, a former Boston College player who has one year of eligibility remaining, but any scholarship offer for Poole would likely result only if the Trojans have one to spare after signing day. Top Stories
