Recruiting status update

The Trojans head into the home stretch of recruiting with just over a week to go until letter of intent signing day. Click below for an update on a few of the remaining targets:

Maurice Drew to UCLA is bad, no two ways about it. It doesn't matter how many other running backs were committed because Maurice is a difference maker and you always want to get those recruits if you have a chance. It's one thing that he's not coming to USC (the presence of Reggie, Chauncey and LenDale will help ease that pain) but the fact that he gave a verbal to the Bruins is something I'm struggling with because he's a player I've enjoyed watching in high school and wanted to root for in college. Oh well.

The wide receiver merry-go-around continues only right now you have to wonder if anybody wants to get on the Trojan ride. Steve Smith is the target and the Trojan staff remains confident at this point with a hopeful decision this week. Whitney Lewis gave rave reviews to Florida State while on his visit and certainly gave the appearance that he could easily end up a Seminole. Don't count the Trojans out on this one but a realistic look says we are definitely trailing FSU. No real update from Andre Caldwell as Florida and Miami remain the perceived leaders although he has yet to eliminate USC.

Ryan Watson took a trip to Miami this weekend and had a good time. The fact that his teammate Carnell Stewart didn't join him was as simple as the fact the Canes did not offer Carnell but Stewart also announced plans to trip to USC this coming weekend and if that happens you have to like our shot for Watson. It stands to reason that Stewart wouldn't take his last remaining trip to the Trojans unless Ryan gave him a good indication that USC was a major player for his services. The staff will pay a visit to Louisiana this week in the hopes of securing this pair of top tackles.

Lamarr Woodley has not made public any verbal commitment. All we can do is wait at this point and continue to make our case for how perfect Lamarr would fit in the Trojan system. There's no denying the kid has interest and the family has bought into the Pete Carroll program as well. Will he be able to withstand the pressure from the home folks over the next week? Stay tuned.
