Trojan recruiting update

This week has already featured one blessing with the verbal from Steve Smith and as we head into the final weekend of this recruiting season here's a look at an updated status for the remaining recruits on the Trojan wish list.

Ryan Watson will trip to Michigan State this weekend and the Trojans are right in it as one of his favorites.  He's another player who was hosted by Alex Holmes on his official visit and so far Alex has shown a pretty good closing rate for verbals.  Ryan will also have an influence on Carnell Stewart and it's hard to imagine Carnell would be visiting this weekend unless Watson gave a very favorable impression of USC.

Whitney Lewis received star treatment at the basketball game last night while sitting with Lenny Vandermade, Ed Orgeron, Norm Chow and Pete Carroll.  At one point the USC song girls came up from the floor of the Sports Arena to introduce themselves to Lewis.  The USC band then turned around and serenaded him with a version of "Conquest".  Whitney stood with both arms in the air giving the victory salute with a smile on his face as he seemed to truly be enjoying the moment.  It remains to be seen if we will get him but last night had to leave a positive view of USC in his mind.

Andre Caldwell indicated in an interview last night that the Trojans are still one of the five schools he is looking at despite rumors that he is heavily leaning to one of the home state schools.  Pete Carroll had a good in-home visit this week and the Trojans have done a nice job of showing Caldwell how he could fit at USC.  Another receiver also keeping the Trojans on his list is Mark Bradford who had a campus visit this week which he said went very well.

There are many rumors surrounding Lamarr Woodley right now but so far the Michigan linebacker is not saying a word.  He has shown more interest in USC than people in his home state would like to believe and he understands the tradition of LB for the Trojans.  He will face a lot of pressure to stay home and we won't know his final decision until signing day.

There are two relative sleepers visiting this weekend and the Trojans have yet to offer scholarships to either player.  Stephen Reaves was the QB for Mike Williams in his senior year of high school and he is also the brother of Lane Kiffin's wife.  Stephen is leaning heavily to Auburn at this point.  Carl Nicks is an athletic lineman from a small school in Salinas who the Trojan coaches discovered while looking for top juniors in the next recruiting class.  A HS coach mentioned Nicks as a senior with potential who had been overlooked and after looking at tape the USC coaches were impressed enough to bring him down for a visit and a further look.
