Ryan Watson is a Trojan

Trojan defensive line coach Ed Orgeron comes from the Bayou state of Louisiana and today he got a verbal commitment from Ryan Watson, one of the top defensive tackles in the nation and a star at Curtis HS who chose USC over the local LSU Tigers.

"Ryan is committed to USC," said River Ridge (La.) John Curtis Head Coach J.T. Curtis. "He said USC is just the best fit for him, he can great exposure out there and it offered him great opportunities for the future."

Watson (6-4, 280) is ranked as the #8 DT in the nation by TheInsiders.com and he gives the Trojans excellent balance along the line with the addition of another inside player.  Ryan is similar in build to Mike Patterson although Watson is several inches taller.  USC may not be done from Curtis HS either as Watson's teammate Carnell Stewart is also deciding between USC and LSU.

Ryan had 85 tackles, 19 sacks, 2 caused fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries last season as Curtis rolled to a 4A state title.  He has a 2.8 GPA and indicates that the academics of USC played a role in his final decision.

"I have to think about who is going to best prepare me for the rest of my life," said Watson on Monday when asked about his final choice.
