Potoae Visiting USC

Back in February, Lakewood (Wash.) Lakes DT Sione Potoae made a decision. He wanted to attend the University of Washington. One of the reasons he made an early commitment was so that his father, who has since been deployed to the Middle East, could be a part of it all. But time has a way of changing things, and right now Potoae is on his way to his first official visit. And it's not to UW.

"(USC Defensive Coordinator) Rocky Seto came up on Tuesday and did an in-home visit," Lakes Head Coach Dave Miller told Scout.com Friday morning. "During the in-home, his mom said it was fine to take a trip. Sione wasn't sure one way or another, but last night they firmed it up and he decided he wanted to go and take a look."

So right now Potoae, the new No. 5 DT in the country, is headed to Los Angeles to check out his options. This is something the 6-foot-3, 285-pound Potoae has been thinking about for some time, and how he'll get his shot at seeing what the Trojans have to offer.

Miller was also kind enough to offer some insight as to the rest of Potoae's visit schedule. "Being committed to Washington, he wanted to make sure he visited Washington on the weekend they wanted him there," he said. "And they want him there on January 15th, which is a big weekend for them. If there's one more trip he might take, it's still up in the air. It's not set, but he may visit UCLA, he may not. We'll discuss that next week. Washington will be his second trip, and it may be his last one."

We will be in touch with Sione after his USC this weekend, but Miller offered some strong comments about Potoae's previous commitment to UW.

"For me, he's still committed to Washington," Miller said "Washington is still the team to beat."
