Sione Potoae officially visits USC

It wasn't a shock that Sione Potoae from Lakes High in Lakewood, Wash., decided to take an official visit to USC, but it was somewhat surprising how quickly he made the decision to hop on an airplane and travel to Los Angeles. The official visit to USC wasn't a trip Potoae planned weeks ago, it was a last minute decision.

"(USC Defensive Coordinator) Rocky Seto came up on Tuesday and did an in-home visit," Lakes Head Coach Dave Miller told Friday morning. "During the in-home, his mom said it was fine to take a trip. Sione wasn't sure one way or another, but last night they firmed it up and he decided he wanted to go and take a look."

SCPlaybook, with help from's Chris Fetters, reached Lakes head football coach Dave Miller by phone earlier tonight. Miller said he only had a brief conversation with his star defensive tackle, but he was able to provide a little insight on how the official visit went for Potoae.

"He had a great time and though it was really top notch," said Miller about Potoae's official visit to USC. "He got a chance to get to know the coaches, players, the program and he got to watch some practices. They're preparing for a bowl game down there. And he just said everything was good. He didn't change his commitment or commit, he's still going to go to Washington on January 15. Right now, I think he feels really good about both programs."

Washington will get Sione Potoae's final official visit, but there's one other school he's considering taking an official visit to.

"He's still deciding if he's going to UCLA. They offered him and they want to bring him down there," said Miller. "They wanted him to come on January 15, but he's going to Washington that big weekend because that's the school he's committed to, right now. So, I think it was good for him to see another program and compare it. We didn't get a chance to sit down and talk a lot, we only spoke briefly, but tomorrow we'll do that and get a feel for where he's at. Right now, I just think everything just went really well."

Coach Miller said he anticipates Coach (Pete) Carroll and staff scheduling their in-home visit for this upcoming week, and that Carroll has frequently spoken to Potoae by phone.

"Rocky has been the main contact as far as face-to-face conversations go, but Coach Carroll has spoken to Sione by phone quite a bit," Miller said. "I anticipate Coach Carroll coming in for an in-home visit this upcoming week."

***It was too late for Miller to arrange an interview for us with Potoae tonight, but he said he will talk to him tomorrow and arrange for an interview tomorrow. Stay tuned… Top Stories
