Prater isn't the only USC commit who is devestated by the news about Carroll's departure to the Seattle Seahawks.
"He messed up a lot of recruiting," said Prater about Carroll. "There are a lot of kids down here who feel just like I do. I mean, he told me he was going to be there and now he's not. I don't know what to think right now. I don't even want to talk about it anymore."
Prater hadn't heard from a USC coach until today, but he didn't learn anything about the situation because none of the USC assistant coaches know anything.
"I called Pete Carroll and he didn't answer and then I spoke to Coach (John) Morton, but he doesn't know what's going on," Prater said. "None of the coaches at USC knew this was going to happen. They don't even know if they are going to have a job at USC when they hire a new coach."
When he does get back home to Chicago, Prater is going to figure out what the process is going to be from now until he makes a final decision. A decision that will probably include choosing among USC, Notre Dame, Illinois and Oklahoma. Basically the same situation when he committed to USC.
But there is a major difference now than when Prater announced his commitment to the Trojans, lack of time. Prater was set to leave for Los Angeles tomorrow and enroll at USC on Monday. So, we asked him how much time he has until he has to decide if he's going to stick with USC, or enroll at another school?
"A little time, a little time," said Prater. "That's why this is so hard."
We'll continue to keep in contact with Kyle Prater and provide updates next week.
