Lawrence Thomas excited over offer from USC

Not many scholarships were offered this early to juniors four or five years ago, but the process has speed up tremendously and prospects like Lawrence Thomas from Detroit feel as if they have waited a lifetime for some offers. And who can blame them when they are sitting on more than 20 scholarship offers by Feb. 11 from the many of the elite schools in the country?

Not many scholarships were offered this early to juniors four or five years ago, but the process has speed up tremendously and prospects like Lawrence Thomas from Detroit feel as if they have waited a lifetime for some offers. And who can blame them when they are sitting more than 20 scholarship offers by Feb. 11 from the many of the elite schools in the country?

Thomas received an offer from USC on Thursday, which means the Trojans are going hard after another potential No. 1 player from Michigan. Do the Trojans have a shot, though?

"Man, when my coach told me USC had offered me, I didn't know what to do," said Thomas. "It's like I've been waiting on USC for the longest time, and to finally get that offer made me very happy. And yes, I am very interested in USC!!"

Although Thomas hasn't met or spoken to anyone on Lane Kiffin's satff, Thomas said his coach has.

"I haven't talked anyone from USC, yet but my coach has," said Thomas. "He said they really want to talk to me. They want me to come up there so I can meet everybody and just see everything."

It's quite an honor to be given a No. 1 ranking by Scout.com for any position, but it's clear Thomas won't let the scholarship offers/accolades he's received, and will receive, affect him as person or player.

"I have 21 scholarship offers and it feels great to be the No. 1 MLB in the nation," Thomas said. "It's like my dreams are starting to come true. But I just gotta stay humbled, you know?"

Scout.com will continue to provide updates on Thomas throughout the process.
