Junior to watch: OL/DL Brandon Nicolas

WeAreSC caught up with Mater Dei's Brandon Nicolas. Sure to be one of the most highly touted prospects for the class of 2004 at both defensive tackle and offensive tackle, he gives us the latest.

WeAreSC- What schools are you looking at right now?

Nicolas- "Not in any order, but USC, UCLA, Colorado, Michigan, and Ohio State."

WeAreSC- Do you have any offers?

Nicolas- "No."

WeAreSC- What schools do you seem to be hearing from the most?

Nicolas- "I'd say Colorado, Michigan, Boston College, Washington, Ohio State, and LSU probably, just through letters."

WeAreSC- Did you grow up following a favorite team?

Nicolas- "Growing up I liked Florida State a lot."

WeAreSC- What are you going to be looking for in the school you choose?

Nicolas- "I'm going to be looking at the coaching, playing time, the facilities, and the education."

WeAreSC- What is it that has you interested in USC right now?

Nicolas- "I really like Coach Carroll.  He seems like a really good motivator and real enthusiastic.  And the tradition there.  I went to one of their camps last year and I liked the coaches.  The D-line coach, Coach Orgeron, I worked mainly with him.  I thought he was a good coach."

WeAreSC- Have you made it out to any USC games or practices before?

Nicolas- "No, I didn't make it out to any."

WeAreSC- There's a few Mater Dei alums at USC right now.  Do you know any of those guys?

Nicolas- "I know a few of them.  I met [Matt] Leinart and I know Matt Haugen. I've met [Lenny] Vandermade."

WeAreSC- If USC were to offer, what kind of impact would that have?

Nicolas- "That would have a big impact.  I do really like SC right now."

WeAreSC- What is your current height and weight?

Nicolas- "About 6'5, 260."

WeAreSC- Do you have your 40 time and your max on the bench and squat?

Nicolas- "4.86 and 355 on the bench.  That was from last year.  And on squat, 450."

WeAreSC- I know you play on both sides of the ball, where does it seem like most schools are recruiting you at, and do you have a preference?

Nicolas- "They really haven't said.  They can't really call me, so I haven't talked about it yet.  Probably defense, but either way, I like them both."

WeAreSC- Do you have any of your stats from your defensive tackle spot?

Nicolas- "76 career tackles, 5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 3 blocked kicks."

WeAreSC- Do you play any other sports?

Nicolas- "No, I used to play lacrosse.  I used to live in Ohio.  We moved right before my sophomore year.  I went to St. Ignatius."

WeAreSC- What are your plans for this summer?

Nicolas- "I'm maybe going to the Nike camp and I'm going to try to get to a few camps.  Probably the USC one day camp."

WeAreSC- If a big offer comes along, do you plan on committing early or do you want to go through the whole process?

Nicolas- "More than likely, I probably wouldn't want to [commit early]."
