Turene, ranked as the No. 23 outside linebacker in the country by Scout.com, will be starting his trip on June 21 when he visits USC. He's never been to California.
"It's a great school," Turene said about USC. "Coach Monte Kiffin is one of the best coaches around."
But what about the recent NCAA sanctions that the Trojans are facing? "I'm not too concerned about the NCAA ruling," he admitted. "I'm still looking at USC for sure.
"I've talked with coach Monte Kiffin and (linebackers) coach Joe Barry after the announcement and they said they're appealing it," he said. "They said they're still going to be recruiting the best players and don't think that's gonna change."
His most recent offer was from Georgia – about three weeks ago. "I just want to see what it's like over there," he said. "Georgia is a great program and I've always kind of liked them. They have great coaches and seem to always be pretty good."
Another program whose coaches Turene likes is Alabama. "Coach Nick Saban is amazing," he said. "I love their defense.
"Coach Saban is all about character and he's a great person," he said. "The program is a power in the SEC and that's the best conference in the country."
Turene also has a strong opinion about the new Tennessee coaches. "I have a great connection with (defensive coordinator) coach Justin Wilcox and (assistant head coach/wide receivers) coach Charlie Baggett," he said. "They said I can make an instant impact for the program and could compete to play right away. I like their philosophy and how they do stuff."
He also likes new head coach Derek Dooley. "He has a great attitude," he said. "And is a high character guy."
Turene recently visited Florida on June 14 and says the Gators have offered him as well. "It was great," he said about his time in Gainesville. I got to see the whole round up and got to see everything about the school.
"I liked having one-on-one time with the coaches too," he said. "Talking to coach Urban Meyer was great. He said he likes my attitude and talked about how focused they are on winning another national championship. He said the secret to his being a good coach, was getting great recruits."
Turene says he also has offers from Cincinnati, Florida International, Illinois, Marshall, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Carolina, North Carolina, Purdue, Texas A&M, Western Kentucky, West Virginia and others.
He denies any time frame for making a decision. "I'll just be looking for great coaches, a good environment, nice academics and early playing time," he said. "Those are the things that matter to me."
Turene reports a 2.9 core GPA and a 24 ACT.
