Sealing off So Cal

Ed Orgeron was Pete Carroll's first hire after taking the SC job in December of 2000. Ed was the only member of Paul Hackett's departing staff to continue his recruiting efforts and, as a result, the Trojans landed Cody and Patterson, perhaps the two most important players in stopping Adrian Peterson in the BCS championship game in Miami.

Oregon is a GREAT recruiter and he reportedly told fellow staffers after coming here with Lane Kiffin that ``we want all of 'em,'' referring to the leading players in Southern California. He and fellow staffers are off to a fast start and staged a coup by landing the Southland's top two quarterbacks, Max Wittek Mater Dei and Cody Kessler of Bakersfield. Kessler had a slightly better junior season than Wittek and was invited recently to compete against other great quarterbacks from around the nation. But that doesn't mean Wittek is a second banana. Anyone who saw him in the spring with Mater Dei will tell you he has improved tremendously and won't enter the SC program behind Kessler. They're both first-rate players. Also, this forced Rick Neuheisel of UCLA to go to the JC ranks for a much-needed quarterback recruit.

The Trojans also have a commitment from one of the top WRs on the West Coast in Victor Blackwell from Mater Dei and are in great shape to sign the top receiver in the nation, George Farmer from Gardena Serra.
