Sunday Practice Report

Citing a lack of commitment, USC coach Lane Kiffin has suspended freshman defensive back Patrick Hall indefinitely.

Hall Suspended
USC defensive back Patrick Hall has been suspended indefinitely, coach Lane Kiffin announced Sunday.

While Kiffin provided no specific reasons for the suspension and said no one incident was the cause, he gave subtle hints.

"We have a team where 99 percent of the guys are fully committed right now to being a championship student-athlete on the field and off of it and we didn't feel like Patrick was doing that," Kiffin said. "There isn't a day you can do downstairs and not find (defensive tackle) Christian Tupou (who tore knee ligaments during the spring game) down there trying to do something to get better and he should have every excuse there is."

"Patrick may have a chance to come back someday, but not until he changes his focus."

Hall suffered a torn ACL during fall camp last year, but did not join the team until January because he was not cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center in time.

O-line Takes Shape
After entering camp with uncertainty, the offensive line has taken with shape with four of five starting jobs determined. Only the right guard spot remains in flux, as sophomore Khaled Holmes remains limited because of a series of stingers.

"We're starting to finally get our settled lineup," left tackle Matt Kalil said. "Now we got our solid base and we can start to work on our chemistry."

Kalil said he had no concerns about how the line would perform after a fall without contact.

"We're taking it light for a purpose. We're kind of saving our intensity for the games," he said.
