Quoting Kiffin: Monday Practice

Look inside to hear what USC head coach Lane Kiffin had to say about the 2010 team captains, the possibility of redshirting Kyle Prater and much more.

Lane Kiffin on the possibility of redshirting Kyle Prater:

"Kyle has really had an up and down camp, just like spring. He works extremely hard. He's going to be a great player here for us, probably has the best hands on our team and catches everything. After a number of conversations with him and his family, we're going to lean toward not playing him and possibly redshirting him this year. His competitive side wants to fight through this and go out there, but he's just not 100 percent. We feel he is going to be so good when he is that we don't want to throw him out there when he is not 100 percent. We're fortunate to have enough guys where hopefully we can do that and he can get healthy and stronger and look to a great career here starting next year."

Lane Kiffin on Matt Barkley being voted a captain as a sophomore:

"With a bunch of guys to vote for, senior good leaders like Ronald Johnson and Allen Bradford, for him to be named over those guys as a sophomore says a lot about his work ethic. They've seen what he has done this offseason, seen how he has changed his body and approach to the game. He wants to be the best and he's working that way."

Lane Kiffin on freshman defensive back Patrick Hall:

"We're still trying to work with him to get him on the same page as the rest of our team. I've said it before, it is a privilege to play here. This is the best football program in America. If you're put on scholarship here, that's a privilege and you need to continue to earn that."

Lane Kiffin on Abe Markowitz's injury:

"Unfortunately, just when we thought we were going into the opener with the two-deep pretty healthy, Abe hurt himself. Just a freak accident with his foot, he'll have surgery probably tomorrow and be out six to seven weeks. It's tough for him, he had earned a scholarship and played extremely well for us at center and guard. He was our backup center. He does not have a redshirt year, so when he comes back we will play him."

Lane Kiffin on USC's offensive line:

"I think they have done everything they can. Unfortunately, they've had a lot of days with not everybody there, so they haven't really had a chance to play together with the same guys in the same spots. That hurts them, but that's not their fault. They have worked extremely hard, had a good camp for the guys that have been healthy and been there. I think it will be a work in progress as they continue to gel as a unit."
